How much did my 22" largemouth weigh?

Hey Everyone,

I just wanted to get a couple of estimates on something.

While fishing for crappies this past weekend off the in-laws dock I pulled in a 22" largemouth. It is the biggest I've ever caught by 2" and I'm wondering what the weight might have been. I didn't have a scale with me, but the fish ruler I had said 6.5lbs. I checked the Reg. Handbook as well and it said 6.6lbs. I forgot to measure girth so I can't give you that, but later I may be able to post a picture if someone helps me figure out how.

Thanks,

schaapj

P.S. I'm going to Vermillion next week, it'll be a Walleye trip, but I'm not much of a walleye kind of guy and will want to try for some smallies as well. Any tips or advice on what to try?

6.5 pounds isn't probably to far off. The bass I'm holding in my avatar went 22 inches as well. We didn't have a scale either but figured it went between 6.5 and 7. I guess we'll never know exactly how much they weighed. I'm just satisfied with catching a fish of a lifetime.

6.5 lbs is close...lets go with that!.. mabye a tad heavier being that she is probably full of spawn.

as for vermil-I would post a question in that forum.. but i have always done well in the sping throwing huskie jerks, and #3 mepps gold blade with brown tail...

I work with a taxidermist and have see 22" go almost 7 pound if they were FAT, I've also seen skinny ones that would barly make 6 pound. On avarege I would say 6.5 is pretty close.

Great fish, someday I'll catch one that size. smile.gif

Thanks everyone, I'm with you LEECH21 when you said it was a fish of a lifetime. I was just doubting the weight the two references I had were saying. She sure was fat too (probably full of spawn like Deitz was saying). Ultimately, I know it was a very large and I was really excited. I probably wanted to share my excitement in a quiet way. smile.gif

Perfect timing on this thread! I actually boated a 22 incher on monday while throwing cranks for pike! Thing was huge, added another inch to my personal best. Can't wait to get the disposable developed!

Best pike for the day went 31 inches and fat, not bad, most were in the 3-4.5 pound class. Fun day on the water!

Nice fish, I cought a 21 1/2 incher today its weight was 6.4 it was so fat. I had another one on it was even bigger it jumped off right by the boat. That was probally the biggest bass I have ever seen in my life. It looked the the one in the cabelas fish tank.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
