Ryan_V
Who has put their own trailer brake control in their vehicle. I just bought an '01 Tahoe to pull my rig and I have to put a controler in it. The adapter is in the center console...do I just plug it in under the drivers console and wire it to the controller??? Seems simple, but it's something I want to make sure is done properly, and not sure if I trust myself to do it. I have one in my other truck and had a mechanic do it...took him all of about 5 minutes. The tahoe is set up for it and had one in there prior to my purchasing it, so that's why I'm thinking of tackling it myself. any help out there would be appreciated from someone with more knowledge than me!! fish-n-geek
Not sure about the tahoe, but i put on in my f250 in about five minutes. The controller came with a harness, as did the truck, so you splice the corresponding (labeled) wires together and plug in both ends. Should be that simple.-rus-
Ryan_V
did you have to put a fuse in anywhere or not??? I think I can do it, but I'm not sure about a fuse.
Macgyver55
The few newer ones that I have done need either a fuse, or sometimes a relay, installed in the power distribution center located under the hood. There should be a schematic (on the bottom side of the cover) showing where it goes. A couple of them already had the relay from the factory. There really isn't much to it. fish-n-geek
Mine was already set to go.Your manual "should" tell you if you need to add a fuse or relay.-r-
Ryan_V
manual is less than helpful!!! I plugged in the adapted and put the test light on it and it is hot, so I assume that means if there is supposed to be a fuse, that it is in place and all I should have to do is wire and mount the controller...seems to simple to me, but there shouldn't be anything else to it!! thanks for the help fellas!!
