Lowrance H2O

lots of luck

Question

Looking to purchase a Lowarance H2O.

I have read that using this unit with the backlight on and powered by the batteries results in very short run times.

I also know that the unit comes with a cigarette power adapter.

My question is how should I wire this unit into my boat?

Gauage of wire?

In-Line fuse and what size?

Cigarette lighter suggestions?

Length of run form battery to unit?

Connect to cranking battery or trolling motor batteries?

Anything else I am missing?

I bought a regular lighter and mounted that in place. Then I ran a hot and ground wire to the lighter with 5 amp fuse.Wire used for that run was medium as I dont know the gauge but I think it was 14 gauge.Your lighter included with the unit contains in the plug a protection fuse and a voltage regulator to convert 12 volts down to 3 volts. If you dont use thier lighter adapter and connecting to 12 volts will probably burn out the unit.I dont know how far away the unit can be from the battery but that should not be a problem.I wired it to my assc. battery.Any other questions and i would probably call Lowrance.Good Luck, those battery dont last to long and the direct wire is nice.

It does go through batteries quickly. But if you're using rechargeable batteries, it really shouldn't be a big issue, as long as you've got extras with you.
