Another livewell problem

I noticed at the my livewell is not pumping water in from the lake. It makes a hissing noise but very little water is dripping into the front and back livewell. I am going to look into it tomorrow. Any suggestions on where to start. All the other electrical seem to be working.

start at the pump. take off the hose and have someone turn it on. if it moves a lot of water, you probably have something in your line. Many pumps have a removable head so you can clean the impeller. If you have an intake hose (as opposed to a thru-hull pump mount) you might have debris in there, as well.

Yeah...I routinely clean out the intake hose, as you can get debris building up in there. And the fact that you have at least a trickle of water says that the pump is moving some water...so I'd guess that you probably have a blocked hose somewhere.

Does anyone use the intake strainers that screw onto the outside of the intake thru-hull fitting?

Yes,I use the strainer and it seems to block alot of junk.

I say impeller is gunked up, a little moss or a weed will hinder it alot. Try a water hose up the intake or pull pump apart. Had to clean mine a few times.
