How to repair Gel Coat?

Dave1

Question

I bought a used 79 Crestliner and have been watching the hull acquire nicks from trailering over the last 2 seasons.

There are also some heavier gouges about an inch long that go right down to the fiberglass, that have been there since I got the boat.

What is a good product for patching these?

You will probably want to contact the dealer or manufacturer and see if you can order it right from them. Crestliner is a good brand with fairly thick gelcoat. We've done many repairs on them where we were able to sand and buff out the nicks without going through to the 'glass. You may want to give that a try first. Gelcoat is very difficult to patch in and get it to look right, so the fewer spots that you have to apply it to, the better off you are. If you have trouble getting it from Crestliner, you can give us a call, and we can order it from our supplier.
