Personalizing Avatar?

How do I take a digital picture and use it in my avatar? I caught a real nice crappie and took a pic with it and want to use it as my avatar. Do I need to somehow get the pic web hosted so I can link the avatar to that page? I have tried to figure it out, and I consider myself good with computers but cannot seem to get this working. Any suggestions would help.

Yep, you need it hosted somewhere on the net... any of the free sites seem to work alright.. Then from there you go to "my home" at the top of your page and go to the avitar part...
