Trolling motor interference

HC Eye Hunter

Question

I just installed my Vexilar FL 18 on the front of my boat with a puck transducer mounted on my trolling motor. I ran a wire from my curcuit pannel which is connected to my starting battery. The problem I have is interference from my trolling motor when it is turned on. Does anyone know of an easy fix for this problem?

Thanks

HC

I found an easy fix. A small 12V battery (Gander) for $25 or something like that just for my depth finder. It lasted all last summer (no light on) for my Humminbird LCD.

I didn't have and problem when I installed mine. But I read something about a poor ground wire can cause this problem. just a place to start. I think it said the battery must be ground to the boat? good luck.

DO NOT ground your batteries to the boat. This can lead to corrosion of your hull through electrolysis. All boat electrical systems should be closed loop systems.(Unfortunately some are not!) The first thing I would do is put a simple rubber insulator gasket between your transducer and the trolling motor and make sure your Vexilar power cord runs nowhere near the power wires for the trolling motor.

Satchmo,

I will try the rubber gasket idea and hope it works. I do have the FL 18 cord running up is next to the trolling motor cord on the trolling motor shaft. I was hoping to keep it located there but if that is what is causing the trouble I will move it.

Thanks,

HC
