ATV front seals

I have a polaris atv 4x4 front seals have been replaced three times and are leaking again. Its a 1984 with 1700miles on it. What fluild should be used or a fix to stop leaking? Its a 1994 I hit wrong key.

Hi boxcar...

For a 20 year old ATV, leaking seals are not too surprising. However, if the seals need attention, let's say on an yearly basis, I'd look else where for problems. I'm not too familiar with the older models, but I'll take a stab at it... It sort of sounds like there may be something wrong with the axles where the contact the seals. If the axle shafts are worn in those areas, a smaller axle diameter may seal for a while, but only slight seal wear may cause leaking again.

As far as fuild... I've used only Polaris products in my wheelers and NEVER had oil/fluid related problems. Some say there are better, less expensive products on the market... Maybe, but I'll stick with what's worked for me in the past... Also be very careful with the amounts of fluid and oil you put into your machine. Sometime just a small variance from factory specs may cause trouble...

Thanks Moose-hunter for advise, I think book says I can use transmisson fluild instead of theres and there is another problem Ive had set srews out so much in the hubs Im going to have to get new ones 5 bucks apiece. Anyone eles out there give me idea what I should do to solve problem?

I have a (2000) 500 Sportsman. I replaced the seals on one side and things were looking good. Then I noticed that it was leaking again. I thought I would try a few things before I looked at the seal again. I think I replaced the set screws also. I then replaced the plastic end cap with the O-ring that you have to pry off. I can't remember what it cost with the new O-ring but that solved my problem. It sure beat going after the seal again. Give that a try if you think it will help.

THANKS TOM FOR REPLY BUT ISNT O RING ON OUT SIDE,SEALS LEAK ON INSIDE OF HUB? I TALKED TO A TECH HE SAID AXLE MAY BE WORN I THINK THATS BIG BUCKS TOO REPLACE
