Help on Pool 4 for a newbie

Hi all,

I'm going to try pool 4 on Saturday. I'm wondering if someone can give me some very basic info on how to catch a few bass (I don't care if they're largies or smallies).

I understand that there's a tournament and Saturday is the last day for practice. I am not fishing the T and am not looking for your secret spot but just some general info on where is best to put in (MN or WI side), some basic areas that are known to produce some bass this time of year and perhaps some basic presentations to try.

Thanks for your help,

Flip - I'm going to be headed down there on Saturday too! I'm not fishing the tourney either, just looking to get some early bassin' in! The warm spring has got me thinking that the bass will be in the post winter/pre-spawn mode.

Where are you going to be launching? We are going to be launching out of Wilcox. I've only fished Pool 4 a few times, but this early in the season you could find fish anywhere: backwaters, main channel, wingdams, even up in Pepin... Lots of options down there. The lures I'll have tied on to start will be (in order): 1. hard jerkbait, 2. jig tube & flipping tube, 3. spinnerbait, 4. jig'n pig, 5. crank that dives 3-5ft. Just some thoughts for you and anyone else hitting Pool 4. Good luck! Let us know how you did (or maybe for the tourney sake...hold off until after they are all done to be fair).

I just heard that a barge hit the dam and they shut it down. See the Pools 4-11 board under the post "River Conditions" for the info. I'm assuming that this is going to mess up water levels & fish locations.
