MossBoss95
I have a 95 merc 40hp on 17' Basstracker v and was wondering what prop type/pitch will give me the best performance. My boat cruises right around 28mph gps and would like to get a little more. I currently have the stock aluminum prop on.Any input?
0 Valv
I don't think you will gain a lot more with a 17ft and a 40hp, but here's a link where you can find out:http://www.mercurymarine.com/prop_selectorYour top speed is correct for your boat. 0 Moose-Hunter
I agree with Val. I think you're about right with your boat/motor/prop. A step up in pitch may give you more top end, but hurt you in holeshot. Too much pitch and your 40 may not reach max RPM. The only thing I can think of, is to go to a cupped, stainless steel prop in the same pitch. However, the gains would be very small and would probably not offset the cost.
