Sonar Problem-Lowrance X-98 locks up under 7ft.

GregeMoose

Question

I've been trying to figure out why my sonar locks up under 7ft. or so? Tryed everything I could think of (manual depth, sensitivity, etc.)I sent the unit back to Lowrance last year and they replaced it with a new one. I thought they must have seen a problem with my old unit to replace it. Tryed out the new unit Friday and it does the same thing! I have to shut the unit off and re-start to get a signal back, getting very frustrating. Any Suggestions? Thanks in advance for any help, Moose

Thanks for the reply. It gets stuck on one depth when I get in shallow water, usally around 7 ft. If I go back out deep it stays at 7ft., till I power down and then power it back up. It seems to perform fine in depths greater than 7-10ft. Sometimes it will report something wild like 300ft while in shallow. Thanks for the help, Moose

Same thing happened to my lms480m. I bought an mmc card and reader and downloaded the "fix it" right from the lowrance HSOforum. I just loaded it into my graph and will be checking it this next weekend on the Rainy to see if it worked. The download was free by the way.

Good Luck,

MJ

MJ, Thanks for the reply. My X-98 does not have the MMC card reader. Also, Lowrance replaced my original unit with a new one leading me to believe they found something wrong with the old one. I'm starting to wonder if it could be a transducer problem? Any others have this problem?

Thanks again for the help, Moose

I had this problem with my LMS320 and had to reset the unit. I "think" if you hold in the power button and the page button at the same time for something like 10 seconds it is designed to do a manual reset.

Unfortunately I am not positive it is the page button but I do know that it is the power button and one other one. Maybe call the company and ask them how to do a manual reset. I had the same problem and this took care of it anyway.

Hi Jeff, I'm fiamiliar with the re-set procedure as I tryed it on my original unit as instruted by Lowrance. It did not help on my original unit. I have not done that on this unit, but will try it. Thanks for the suggestion, Moose

All, Just an update. Called Lowrance again today to explain that this unit also has the same problem as the one I sent back last fall. Now there sending me a new transducer. Kind of funny cause last fall the tech said that it was definitely not the transducer. Not looking foreword to re-rigging (hope it works).I'll update later if it worked or not. Moose
