Question about installing on-board charger

Gopher_Guy

Question

Hi, new member and first post. I just bought a 98 Lund Explorer. I am interested in putting an on-board charger in the boat. I run a 12V trolling motor system, so I have 2 batteries on the boat.

My question is, how do you mount one of these things? I'm assuming you have to drill holes in the boat in order to hide the wires? Does the charger need to be on the opposite side of the gas tank? My boat does not have an internal gas tank, I think the 99 explorers came out with this feature. Any advice is appreciated. I am leaning towards a Minn Kota or the Guest 2 bank charger. Thanks for any and all future responses.

Gopher,

You just have to do what works best in your situation. Sometimes there are gaps you can fish the wires through and other times you have to drill holes. I would tend to keep it away from the tank but the chargers are sealed so the danger of a spark is quite low. The only hole to not drill? The one that is straight down! grin.gif
