Sppedometer Problems

T-ProGuy

Question

I have had problems with the speedometer on my Alumacraft T-Pro pretty much since the boat was brand new (2 years ago). The boat is equipped with a 4 stroke 90hp Yamaha tiller. I have brought it into the dealership numerous times for this problem...they always tell me that the vacuum tube from the motor to the gauge was just clogged and that they fixed the problem, yet the very next time I have the boat on the water, it doesn't work again. Now, I have been working on getting the boat ready for spring and noticed that the vacuum tube is all cloudy and appears to have some sort of white substance in it. Any suggestions? Thanks!

If I correctly recall, my speedometer in my previous boat, a '99 T-Pro, operated with water thru the "vacuum line". It was a water/vacuum line. I had to blow the speedo line out every fall to get the water out of it so it did not freeze/burst. Never had a problem. Have you tracked the entire hose from the speedo to the motor? Try blowing air thru it?

I had a Johnson OMC motor, if that makes a difference.
