Heading out to Devils Lake this upcoming Sat., possibly Sun too for my 2nd favorite type of fishing- Tip-Up Pike.

Have heard the pike are going good this year. We'll be focusing on 6 mile bay to Channel A for the most part. This is a strictly C&R trip but I think my dad mentioned he wants to bring a 2-3 pounder home. Guess I can't stop him for that one.

The Beaver Dams & Frabills are rigged up and ready to go.

Look for a black GMC Sierra Extended Cab. Might have the purple Otter Lodge set up also.

Hanson, that sounds like a fun time, Wave as you go by, come to think of it, I may head that way tomorrow, haven't been there for two years and kinda miss the pike action. There are so many great spots for big pike that it's hard to choose. Had four friends on buffalo point LOW last weekend and they caught seven pike over 40 inches! I gotta be back for Easter services and what not. Good luck. Brent smile.gif

I've been debating between LOW & Devils Lake all week now and have settled on Devils Lake. I think DL is going to be better for action with the possibility of some huge pike. I've had a couple slow years on LOW now. Tried all the usual spots- Elm Pt., Springsteel, Warroad, Swift Ditch. Haven't got to Zipple yet or Buffalo Bay. Buddy of mine got his first 40" at Zipple about 3 weeks ago.

But hey, 4 tip-ups a person in ND. That kind of puts the odds a little more on yourside. grin.gif

Hanson, I stand corrected once again. I just came from talking to the friend personally and saw some pics. They fished a day and a half and landed nineteen pike all over 36 inches. Thirteen of them were over 38 inches with the largest going on the wall at 42.5 inches and weighing 23.7 pounds. All of the other pike were released and no small pike were landed. They had an exceptional trip for sure. I just talked to my cousin on the phone and he has not heard of any fantastic pike action on DL, but he has not been there for a month, It changes daily this time of year and with the forcast for warm weather it is ripe for being an awesome bite. I'm heading out tomorrow morning with my 8 year old son, not sure which direction we will go, but pike are the quarry. I'll have a red suburban, MN plates and a big fisherking01 logo on it, along with FM. It's just too hard to choose. I'm 5 hours from either!

If you want to call and check in tomorrow night, I'll have cell on 320-760-1987. Brent

fisherking01-

I'll call to check in.

I'm pretty sure we'll be fishing the area I previously described. I've never done the later winter pike thing on DL but I know when you hit 6-mile right, it can't be touched by any other lake in a multi-state area for action. Size might be a different story.

I'm always willing to try something new so thats what this weekend will be about. I fished this same area back at first ice in early Dec. and we managed 7 or 8 pike from 4-8 pounds in about a 4 hour span. We were focused on Perch during the trip and couldn't connect with them, or find ice we could get onto, so we settled on watching some tip-ups.

Hey- I did see you at Cool Cats on Horseshoe this winter but didn't stop to talk. You had Fisherking01 on your jacket, correct? Next time I will.

Hanson, hear it was a little early for the late ice. I ended up fishing tulibee on friday morning and then targeting some bluegills. I couldn't talk my son into a trip for 2 days so I opted to stay around home on fri.

On Sat. I took my kids and a friend and his kids to NE SD for some tip up action. We found that the fishing was slow and the pike were not moving on any of the area lakes. We managed three pike, all under five pounds. We had a great time exploring and enjoying the weather. We found the ice to be deteriorating and not really driveable except for atv travel. I'm thinking of a trip in the future, but I'm going to wait for a good report from friends. Have a great Easter. Brent
