open water fishing?

Was wondering how the ice situation is on waubay and the other lakes in the area? Would like to plan a weekend out there with the boat, but live to far away to drive out each weekend to check. Can anyone tell me if there are any good lakes in the area that produce early iceout gills or crappies? Hopefully be on the water soon. Thanks for any info.

if i was u i would leave my boat at home and bring the ice gear. I live in Aberdeen and waubay still has 20+ inches of ice. Many truck still out there but be careful, we have been using ATV and getting around fine, but foresure leave your boat at home for atleast 2 weeks
