Long Gray Line
I'm going to Minnis (ON) on a fly-in out of Sioux Lookout this late June and I'd like to hear advice from anyone w/ experience on the lake. Thanks in advance, Jeff
hoggs222
Lake Miniss from Hidden Bay? I was there in 1996. It is a very nice place. 8 or so 22" walleyes per hour each is what we were averaging. We had the rule that if you bring it back, you've got to eat it. I went up there with my Dad & The McQuoids. I believe Terry McQuoid pulled in a 40" northern. I'll have to ask my Dad what we primarily used up there. All in all, it was relaxing & very fun. You could always visit their booth at the sportsmans show & ask them what lures are producing. Oh, watch out for the black bear by the outhouse. Scared the hell out of my dad one morning.
Long Gray Line
This place is out of Slate Falls Outfitters out of Sioux Lookout. I'm pretty sure the lake is spelled Minnis. From what I've been told it's a trophy northern lake with a great walleye population. Since this is the first time to the lake, just trying to get some info on locations, patterns, etc. We're going up the last week in JuneTks! hoggs222
The lake that I fished is in Sioux Lookout out of Hidden Bay Resort. Check out hiddenbay dot com to see if it's the same lake. I thought that Hidden Bay was the only cabin on the lake, but I could be wrong. Let me know & I'll check around for you.
Long Gray Line
It is indeed the same lake. De Lesseps hooks into it on the east end. Hidden Bay's picture of the cabin looks very different from the Slate Falls picture so I'd have to guess there are 2 cabins on the lake. That's also what I heard from one of the guys that's been there before. Anyway, what can you tell me about patterns for walleyes and northerns. I'm guessing wind blown points/shores, higher current and 12-18' rocks for walleyes. Maybe weedlines off of bays or even in the bays if it's cooler for the northerns. Did you buy the live bait or just use twister tails? Stick baits or jig & plastic for the northerns? I'll take what ever you can pass on!!Tks,Jeff
walleyebuster
I fished Lake Minnis in 2000 and 2001. I stayed at Guardian Eagle Lodge located on De Lesseps. De Lesseps was good for walleye but Lake Minnis was much better. We had a fishing contest one afternoon for 3 hours and the winner caught 51 fish. Everyone was in the 30’s. Seemed to me that any shore where the wind was blowing in was the best. Used ¼ oz jigs tipped with minnows and twister tails. Caught several fish with just twister tails. Most of the fish were in the 17” – 22” class. We did catch a 28” which I believe was the biggest along with several in the 22” – 26” range. It was a great trip would love to do it again some day with my boys. I was actually on a business outing. Anything else I can help with let me know.
