fisherking01
In a sense carp do play a role in food supply of ducks. Not in every area, but in sensitive areas of wetlands. Lake Christina for example has been managed for 50 plus years for ducks. The carp populations have played a part in that they disturb (root around) on the muddy bottom of the lake. This in turn causes the water to become cloudy, the dirty water doesn't let enough sunlight to the bottom to support an abundance of plant growth, hence the shortage of food for the ducks. Carp also do un-root many aquatic plants and if they haven't produced their potential for seed or foilage, the food source is also gone. Hope this nutshell of an explaination helps. There is a lot of information available on the subsect from the dnr, minnesota waterfowl, du, delta waterfowl, and many other sources that have studied the effects.
