Coleman powermate spotlight RED FLAG!

I was driving along in my truck today and I started to notice a very unpleasent burning smell, It progressively got worse to the point I had to pull over. I thought maybe it was something wrong with my truck. Then I finally found that it was coming from my 1000 candle power coleman spotlight that I had laying on the floor. It burnt a 5 inch diameter hole through my custom mat and left a nice black burn mark on the carpet below. I was [PoorWordUsage]ed, I still dont know what exactly happened but I do know that the side of the light, the plastic is worped from it getting to hot. The light also smells so bad that I had to keep it outside of the garage. I was thinking of taking it apart but it still stinks like burnt plastic. Maybe it was turned on and was face down and the intensity from the light burned a hole, but this particular light has a safety switch, so I don't know how it would of turned on. the light wasnt on when I found it but the battery is dead or it doesnt work anymore. I am going to call coleman. Anyone ever have this problem?

Andy I had this happen to me but it was on my front passengers seat. Luckily! It was daylight so I didnt notice it right away. Im guessing it couldnt have been on long but it sure was hot! Now if Im not going to use it that day I keep it in the garage on top of my Grill. Those things really put out srious heat!! Sorry to hear that you got burned!
