skid plates for the fish traps?

I was wondering if anyone has feedback on wether the skid plates for the fish traps are worth the cost?

The runners for the fish traps are lousy. I bought a guide about a month ago but rather than using the fish trap runners, I bought the otter runners. Much better quality.

I couldn't believe the fish trap runners for $30. Not pre-drilled, not pre-cut. Just three pieces of plastic and the hardware.

I installed the runners on my Guide with no problems. You need to drill the holes on your base anyway, why not drill thru the runners at the same time?
The only thing I couldn't figure out is why they were not the correct length?
The splices are a joke.
