Sporting Clays Chokes and Loads

I'm going to shoot on a Sporting Clays league this year. This will be my first time shooting Sporting Clays.

I'll be shooting a Beretta 390. Can anyone with experience with this gun suggest the best choke for SC?

What ammo are you guys shooting? I saw Winchester Sporting Clays ammo at Gander but wasn't sure about the load.

Thanks!

I have been shooting sporting clays for the last 2 weeks on a league and have found that skeet choke works the best in my 11-87. I all depends on the course, if it has a lot of close shots, 25 yds and closer skeet or improved cylinder will be the best. I was able to pound clays out to 30-40 yards with the skeet choke. You might want to find a big sheet of paper and pattern your gun, that always helps.

I shoot an AL391 Urika, and use an Improved Cylinder for sporting clays. I'm not the best shot in the world but the IC seems to have enough reach for most of the stations I shoot. I see a lot of guys using Skeet chokes but since I don't have a Skeet the IC works just fine, and I think it has a little more reach than a skeet. Hope this helps.

And for ammo I use #8 in 1 or 1 1/8 oz. I would recomend buying a little better ammo like the Federal Premium or something like that. I have used the cheap field and range stuff when it was on sale for under $3 and after 100 rounds it gums up a gun really well, to the point of miss feeding. I spend about $4 a box just for a little better powder in the shells, they seem to work much better.

I would use the IC and change loads for distance. I keep a few 9's for extremely close shots 8 for most and 7 1/2's for the longer shots. That works great on doubbles when you have a close bird and a longer shot at the same station.

Shoot what ever brand you like $3 or $6 box---they all go bang laugh.gif
