will old converted hummingbird flasher work for ice fishing?

I don't have vexilar...yet. I do have an old hummingbird flasher I got with the boat I bought 2 years ago. and want to convert into an ice fishing flasher...does this work? Has anyone else done this? Comments and advice welcome.

I used a flasher for a couple years before I got a vex - Super 60 I think. Just made a box on which to mount the flasher and made a styrofoam device to hold the transducer. It worked okay.

I used a super 30 before I got my Vex. It worked ok, but was a PITA getting the transducer perpendicular in the hole. If it was slightly off axis, I'd loose the bait on the flasher.

I would just go and buy a used Vex FL-8. You can find them cheap these days on HSOList and on this HSOforum. Lots of people upgrading to the FL-18's or Marcums.
