wobbley Jiffy head

picksbigwagon

Question

I have a 9" white lightning Jiffy, and the power head seems to wobble a little bit while I am drilling. Is this normal? other than the wobbling, it works great, the blades have never been changed on it and I have used it for 4 years now. Obviously I don't get out that much, but it seems to be wobbling more now than I remember.

I'm not sure if you have one on you auger but,Check and see if your center point broke off. I have and eskimo power auger and the center point broke off this year. starting a hole can be a little pain now but it still cuts good once it gets going.

I've owned a Jiffy Model 30 for about 10 years or so and mine has wobbled ever since I took it out of the box. I was concerned at first, but now I hardly notice it. I'd be surprised if it wasn't normal.

I had this issue with my StrikeMaster and after talking with their customer service rep we determined that the auger shaft was bent witch caused the wobble when drilling. When drilling thru thicker ice the wobble increased because the shaft was bent slightly at the upper end by the power head. If you leave the power head attach make sure you support the power head and auger shaft to help prevent bending of the shaft when traveling. Now I always make sure that the auger is properly secured.

Thanks everyone, I am just assuming that it is the way it is going to be........of course I would love to try out and buy one of those new nils master augers, but I have spent enough for now, maybe in a couple years I will get one of those little bad boys

How's everyone hauling their augers, layin on the side?

If it is possible to bend the shaft, doing this, who's got a suggestion as to an improved means of transport, without seperating the power head?

I never thought about taking the power head off...that would be good for the longer trips, and then putting it on when i get on teh ice..........it's just one bolt, and my wrench stays with the auger any way, I might have to go home and give that a shot tonight....
