Questions on Vexilar and transducer angle

DRH1175

Question

I was looking at the new FL18 package offered by Vexilar and had a couple questions For walleye Fishing which angle is preferred by most. 12 or 19. Second question does anyone have trouble reading through ice to locate depth and fish with their Vexilars?

I suggest getting the dual beam 9/19 degree transducer. Then you can have the best of both worlds. I leave mine on 19 most of the time, but there are times where it is nice to have the focus of a 9 degree. I go nine degrees in deep water (sometimes), sharp drops, or when fishing next to someone in a house. The nine degree cone gives you less of a dead zone on sharp breaks, and can make it so you dont see your buddies lures when fishing in a perm shack.

If I had to decide between the 19 and the 12, I'd probably take the 19.

I have no trouble reading through the ice. I carry a bottle of water and put the transducer on that. I can see weeds and fish through the ice, no problem. If the ice is very rough and the transducer does not have a good contact patch, it will be harder to get a good reading.

I also went with the 9º/19º Ducer.

When I fish crappies in 40' (30' down) of water and there is some else fishing with me I use my 9º almost all of the time.

I like to use the 19º when I'm fishing in water about 20' and shallower. Whether I'm fishing with someone or not I'll still use the 19º cone. But when it comes to the sharp breaks and deeper water I like to use my 9º most of the time.
