Gustafson
Just got back from Mille Lacs with some of those wonderful pout. I have always just fried them with my other fish and they were just fine. I would be very gracious if someone could tell one of those recipes to turn it into poor mans lobster. Thanks, Gustafson
LABS4ME
I prefer to use the backstraps for the "poor man's lobster" and save the tail fillets for beer batter.Boil it in a can of 7-UP for about 7-10 minutes. Take out and drain on a plate with paper towel, immediatley serve it, make up some garlic butter to dip it in, my wife honestly prefers to have me bring home the 'pout' over the walleyes when going to LOW! It actually is very good! Most people think they are a scavenger, but they actually have the same diet as a walleye, and are truley fresh water cod.Good Luck!Ken

riverrat56
we have boiled them and then quick battered and fryed to put a breading on them, very good stuff. We always just save the tails, how do you guys take out the backstraps?
widetrack
Just like cutting the backstraps off a deer.

Boar
Boyits been awhile sinceI've been on line feels good to be back. I have tried the pout, burbot, lawyer, ugly as sin, for the first time two weeks ago. I'v tried rocky mountain oysters {very good} so I figured I could try burbot. I'll not not take one home again. Delicious. Ya just cut down the spinal colum till it gets thin and then follow the lateral line then peel it out with youre knife. I personally would like to target these fish set a tipup out the window and then jig inside. Good fish.
