Propane & Cold Weather

Ronsay

Question

I have 2 30# tanks on my house and was set up on Red Tuesday. Just before leaving the gas light would go out when the furnace kicked on. The tank was close to full, but it was bitter cold out that evening.

Anybody else having problems like this, and are there any remedy's other than going with a 100# tank in sub zero weather?

Someone told me to pour hot water over the tank when this happens, another person said to leave both tanks open and carry a spare with me.

Any suggestions would be appreciated,

Ron

probably your regulator or your hose isn't a large enough diameter. I throw a blanket or sleeping bag over my tanks when it is below 0 temps. I have never had a problem, but know of friends that have had problems with hoses freezing becausee the diameter was too small for the amount of propane that they were drawing through.

Thanks for the replies. I will check the diameter of the hose, and use a hair dryer on the regulators in case theres some moisture in them. Will also place an old blanket over the tanks when it gets cold.

I talked to a person at the gas company and he claims it's the size of the tank that is causing the problem in sub zero weather, he recommended turning both tanks on to increase the pressure with more gas area being utilized.
