spark plug

jimh874

Question

need a recomendation for spark plug gap on a older 2 hp mag 2000, its the lazer with the metal handles.

it seems to be flooding the combustion chamber, and at a 035 gap it would spit and sputter and die, with a 045 gap it seems to burn the fuel better but still spits and sputters and wont idle.

rebuild kit in the carb, new adjustment needle, fresh gas, new plug.

never again will i buy a used auger.

Sounds like other problems. Plug gap should not make much difference in how it runs. Most two strokes are .035" and smaller. Check compression. Should be over 100 #. Could still have carb problems, rebuild kit may not stop inlet needle leaking, could do a pressure check, make sure it holds up to six or seven pounds of pressure without dropping, should hold at least a minute or two- better if even longer. Tap inlet lever a couple times, make sure pressure holds steady. Repeat several times. Something could be lodged inside seat area, blow out with compressed air. Work in a clean area so you keep track of all parts. Could also be loose welch plug inside carb, use nail polish to seal, if they appear tight. Replace if loose.
