genio in duluth
Had to happenIce anglers rescued off Superior BayNEWS TRIBUNEThree Duluth ice anglers needed a boat ride Thursday morning when harbor ice they were fishing on separated from shore off Park Point.Duluth firefighters used their inflatable boat to ferry the three anglers across about 15 feet of open water between shore and the area they were fishing."The wind came up off the lake and blew the ice in the harbor away from shore... There was room for the ice to move after the Coast Guard cutter came through," said Jim Ray, assistant fire chief. There was about eight inches of ice on the harbor, Ray said. But Coast Guard officials earlier in the week warned against even walking on harbor ice because of ongoing icebreaking efforts in shipping lanes and currents. Valv
Wow, just like in cartoons.... It's funny now that nobody got hurt, but must have been scary, Superior is not the local small lake where you can always hope to get to other shore..... Tom Linderholm
Ah, I was out there 2 days prior with Northlander in the same spot, 8" of ice. There was a 3 inch gap where we got on the ice but there no wind and no ships in the vacinity at the time so all was good FYI it was in the bay not on the big lake. A little bit early to be jumping on the Lake Superior ice flows.
Captain B.R.K
I would be very interested to hear how much it cost those gentleman to get off the ice safetly. I had heard that when it happens, they make you leave your equipment on the ice.
