Nestor Falls, Are they biting?

Nestor Falls, Are they biting?

We will be heading up and staying at Nestor Falls Hotel and Motel on Friday the 30 and Sat the 31st. Are they biting? I have never been there before, will there be any night life? Are any of you driving out yet? Will we need the sleds? Any tips on any hot spots?

Thank you,

TJB

We are going up on the 14th through the 16th, so will post results here when we get back. As far as night life, the bar is across the parking lot, should have the pool table out for the winter. Pretty quiet usually, although I believe there are sometimes bands/dances in the area. Check with the folks at the hotel.

As far as a sled, depending on the ice and snow, you probably will not "need" it, but there are areas that you can go by sled that may be too dicey by truck.

They are biting and biting good, yous just have to find them. once you do the fish will be there for a few days. You fishing Saboskong or Stevens Bay? I would suggest snowmachines, there is a foot of snow or more. hard to say on the ice with the wind blowing it off and on. Goot Luck. I f your fishing Sabaskong Bay take advice from the Good Time Ranger guy and call Gordy. He is across from the sunset stores in town.

I just talked to Gordy this morning. He has plowed the road out to Christmas Point so far.

Since it has been at least 4 years (2 kids ago) since I was at Nestor Falls, I have a few Q's I hope somebody can answer, as a group of 10 is going up this weekend:

1. On a scale of 1 to awesome, is Christmas Point an OK spot for crappies/'eyes?

2. How far beyond Christmas Point is Woodpecker, Cyclone and Hay? (We have two ATV's but no snowmobiles)

3. Anyone ice fish Caliper?

We stayed at Larsson's Camp on Caliper between Christmas and New Years. We have driven past it how many times but never again. The owners have had the camp for 5 years and are the nicest people you could meet. The cabins are large, clean and well laid out. There is no T.V. but you shouldn't be watching up there.

Caliper is only 15 feet at its deepest. There are abundant northern, walleye and crappie but the last 2 are hard to target through the ice. The slush was terrible on Caliper.

Woodpecker & Cyclone point are close to town and no problem when the ice is good. It is over 10 miles out to Hay. Call ahead or call the number on a previous post. The slush was all over when we were there and we didn't go this last weekend because we heard it was getting worse.
