Got a question , I've always had labs but am by no means any expert on them. I have a 7 yr old choclate female that the wife and kids have been on me the last couple years to get bred. have put them off for the main reason I didnt have anybody lined up for pups. I told them if I could get about half a litter spoken for I would reconsider.she is a big female 100 #s 7 yrs old and the best pheasant dog I have ever had. How old have some of you guys had your dogs bred? is there greater risks? thanks for any help

7 isn't too old, butshe might be at a point where it might be harder to get her bred, older eggs and all.

Things to consider before following through with this:

1. Are her hips Ofa'd certified, are her eyes cerftd?

This is very important to have done as there are too many labs out there with marginal or bad hips.

2. When picking out the sire, make sure their hips and eyes are certified. Most reputable breedeers will also insist that # 1 is required of the female.

3. Do you have a source for marketing the pups. All your buddies will say they want one, but it takes a money commitment, will they follow through.

Hope this helps you make an informed decision
