Walleyes with wax-worms?

I seen several posts about down-sizing for walleyes and usiing wax-worms/grubs. I have never caught a walleye on a wax-worm. Does anyone start off using waxies for walleyes? What are the best presentations for walleyes using grubs?

My number one presentation in the Metro area for walleyes in a size 8 Ratso or Ice Minnow packed with maggots. I'm not going to go as far to say as I've caught more walleyes through the ice on maggots then on minnows, but in the Metro area and on several other occasions the maggots and downsized jigs outproduce the larger spoons and swimming lures or lively minnows. I usually stick to a horizontal jig when targeting walleyes with maggots.

The Ice Minnow is made by JR's Tackle. It's similar to a Lindy Fatboy.

I was on a very unproductive ice outing last weekend and the only presentation that caught walleyes (the few littl'uns that were caught) were on downsized jigs with maggots.

Schnauzer: I see that you are from Minnitrista. I live on Phelps Bay of Minnetonka. I was curious if you were having sucess on Minnetonka with this presentation?

Hey Minn, this is just my $.02 but when fishing Waubay for perch for the last 3 or 4 yrs I have caught just as many eyes on waxies as minnows, so I believe that if they are hungry enough they will eat anything. As far as presentation my primary lure of choice would be a Genz worm or a Rattling Buck Shot and they hit them both the same!!

I have had a some nice catches of early ice eyes of off lake waconia using a waxy and a white glow shrimpo. Strange thing is the smaller ones would hit the dead stick with a fathead/shiner and the larger eyes(18-27") would nail the shrimpo. Jigging for crappies/sunnies and getting eyes; it has worked too many times to not try it.
