Plots and piles are two different things,

As a kid new to food plotting, I take offense to the idea that food plots are glorified bait piles. Those of us who spend 100's of dollars in april and may, and hours of our time have a higher goal in mind, sound management a healthier heard and forage in the winter when it is so scarce.

Bait piles spread CWD. It is transmitted through the saliva of deer. If one deer is eating off of a corn pile, drools all over it, and another comes and eats, it will get CWD. Why do you think the Wisconsin Deer Hunters Association wants baiting banned?? Minnesota has it right, give them extra tags, but don't provide a medium for disease to spread.
