Brushy Creek

Recommended Posts

I stoped on the north end today and saw the main lake out in front of the ramp to be open but the bay on the north east side up to the foot bridge was froze. I could see weare some one drilled holes by the bridge. I did not go and check thickness. If the wind would let up we would be in good shape. I will let you know when it gets good...

Fished Brushy last night. Ice varies from 3-6 inches. Fished the north end in the trees. Talked to guys that were catching gills in the trees. I tried for crappie and eyes. Only managed one 11 inch crappie.

BE SAFE AND GOOD LUCK Todd!

Four of us fished Brushy Creek yesterday(12-29). There were probably 20 portables out but no one driving out with the permanents. We fished through 5-6 inches of ice in 24-26 feet of water. Fishing was great for gills and had one bluegill pushing 10". Caught a dozen crappie (kept 4 in the 10-12" range) and two giant perch (over 13"). Waxies on a Demon worked very well. Tried minnows for walleyes but no luck.

FishHook how are you doing it. We had up to six guys and only got one bass and three eyes 18 24 25 and missed one more may be 20. Sounds good but that was total bites and we fished for 13 hours. Going to have to try more smaller baits to try for gills and crappies. I also heard of others catching fish to Must learn to hold my mouth right. Sounds like the biggest challenge now will be the weather. HELLO it is December 30 not April 30... Thanks and be carefull...

My dad fished Brushy yesterday. He said there was as much as 8 inches of water on the ice in some spots. When he drilled a hole, the water rushed into the hole and it flushed the ice around the hole down like a toilet. Whirlpools formed while the water ran into the hole. Be careful where you step, water flowing like that will open a pretty big hole. It's going to be a little spooky until we get some more cold weather.

We basically fished one area in amongst the trees (I know that is not a big help! smirk.gif)and very close to the bottom. We did not catch any bass or walleye. Two tone green "Demons" seemed to work the best but I did have some luck on pink/white and orange as well. Used wax worms, had no luck at all on minnows. Groups of fish seemed to come into the area and hit for 10-20 minutes and then it would slow way down. At times it worked well to start 2-3 feet from the bottom and slowly work down but I would say the majority of our bites were 12" or less from the bottom. Lost lots of tackel but that is the way it goes in the trees. Hope this helps and that you get a chance to try it.
