FL-8 Genz pack question

Should there be a cover over the battery? I bought one recently and noticed the battery is exposed. Seemed a little odd to me.

its a sealed battery.. exposed is fine. Many of the packs have an exposed battery.

I liked to wrap the exposed battery with light styro packing material and add a 1/4 piece under the battery to insulate it from the cold ice below.

A cheap and workable soft case for the Genz Box and the basic Vex case is a Crock Pot thermal carrying case. Easy to open and is insulated so it helps to protect the unit from the elements.

TIP: In very cold weather add a hand warmer pack next to the battery and it will extend the battery life up to 1/3. This tip is especially handy for underwater camera systems that tend to eat up battery life in cold weather.[i/]
