Abrams can be good for walleyes up the river, for trout you will have to go up the "chute" area into Minitaki. The best method for trout is finding an island and using ciscos and dropping them to the bottom. It takes 2 guys to do this method. One guy on the island to free spool the bait caster and the other guy in the boat to take the baited line out a coupla hunnert yards and let it to the bottom. Wedge your rod in a rock and loop your line aroung a tab of a pop can with the baitcater in free spool. When a trout comes along it will pop the can up, jump in the boat and follow the fish, they usually go to deeper water to turn the bait in there mouths and swallow it. Gently reel in line. We caught 15-25lb trout using this method. If you are staying at Winoga Lodge Talk to Dick he will show you in further detail on this method.

Puppy Kicker,
Wife and I stayed on
Abrams 2 years ago, third week of June. Hired a guide the second day who took us into Minitaki, 17 miles ( by boat) to the falls where the English river dumps in.
Wife and I caught 80 walleyes in 2 hours, nothing big, mostly 16" - 21". I have heard this is good through July.
If you want to catch a lot of fish, get yourself a supply of crankbaits that run around 10' deep, you'll be trolling up river toward the falls just on the line where fast water meets slow water, troll fast enough where your cranks are bouncing off the rocks every now and then, we trolled right up to about 20 yards of the falls , no problem.
You will probably be the only boat in the area as most people are jig fishing about 100 yards downstream in "calm" water. Troll up both sides , one is just as good as the other, only DO NOT try to cross over to the other side within about 50 yards of the falls, just motor back downstream and then cross over. Just the 2 of us went back 2 days later and duplicated the action, maybe even better. This is like 10 -11:00 in the morning, I don't think it makes any difference what time of day.
O.K. so now when your arms are tired of catching walleyes, there is an excellent place for shore lunch just to the left of the falls. Abram lake will not be the same after that! I think I still have a marked lake map of Abram, and I could refer a guide to you if you are interested.
Good Luck,
Backlash

Hey Puppy,

I have been going to Abrams and Minnitaki for many many years, sometimes we go twice a year. I stay at twin pine island , which is half way between the chutes and the english river. I kinda know the lake like the back on my hand. We fish everywhere from south west bay, to east bay North to south and every where in between. We fish for walleyes , lakers and big big northern. I will be up there from June 28th - July 11th. If you would like some spots for me to send to you - here is my e-mail address - and I could get into much greater detail for ya. it is -- [email protected]

ftpy thanks for the help. I will be there from the 22 through the 26th on business fishing trip. I really don't have a map or anything to to look at so I really don't know where I am staying as opposed to the lake. I will try to send you an e-mail tonight.
Backlash I will give it a try thanks.
walleyyes-I have done that before, so I will try it again.

Thanks again guys

I will be staying at winoga lodge for my 6th straight year. The fishing on abram and minnataki are some of the best around. Last year when the water was low we caught a large quanity of 4-6lb fish and had a tough time finding fish to eat but i can't complain with 4 pounders biting every ten seconds. This is one of the best lakes in canada with access to many other top quality lakes. Will be staying at winoga from june 26-30.

Just got back a couple of days ago and the fishing wasnt as great as it was in past years but if you worked hard you got the fish. Dick the owner at winoga lodge said that fishing has been tough and the fish are spred all over but find a reef and fish it hard. Our normal spots that we fished produced many fish once again but the fish were very small which made it tough to find fish to eat and bring home. We found one reef that had some weeds on it and caught the majority of our fish there. If we didnt take a trip down to the english river i dont think we could have taken home the qualitiy of fish we wanted. with the low water temps only in the high 50's go to the rivers where the eyes seemed to be staging for their post spawn move to the reefs. Once the water temps rise into the mid to high 60's go and hit the reefs hard and that is where you will find the fish stacked up
