Some friends of mine got together this weekend and we decided that we need to go on a fly-in next summer together. Some of the guys have never fished before, so I am looking for a place where there isn't a whole lot of skill needed for them to catch walleyes. A few of us can fish and would like to get into some nice lakers and northerns as well. Does anyone have any suggestions on who to go with.

It all depends on your budget, for lower priced I have had good luck with Moccasin trails, for a little more Wilderness North Walleye and Pike School is good, and if you can afford more I can give you some good info. Now is the time to plan for next year, I'm sure you will be getting a few replies to this and there are alot of places to choose from.

Trophy Fish Outpost.

They are Located in Armstrong, north of ThunderBay, by about 150 miles.

He has a great set up that is very comfortable. He has four lakes. One is only 7 years old (it was closed for 20 years prior).

Go to Machawain or Keezhik.

Cost is reasonable and the fishing is outstanding.

Machawain has alot of fish that are "virgins" since the lake was closed for so many years. We litterally caught 50 to 75 fish in just 2 or so hours.

Keezhik has the bigger fish. BIG pike and BIG walleyes. The action is a little slower, but well rewarded with quality. It is a bigger system too.

Also, if you do go, I will mark up a map for you of where to go on both bodies of water.

The outfitter will also set you up where all the fish are being caught........

He is a great guy. Name is Jim Corbin.

Let me know if you want the number........

We did the fly-ins with him for 4 years straight. We quit because of the fishing on LOTW is much better quality for size of fish. Got tired of catching 5lb walleyes and 40" pike...........Wanted bigger........

You should check out L&M Fly In. They fly in to some excellent walleye & northern lakes. We have been to most all of their lakes over the years. The fishing, equipment, a& people are all top notch. If you look at their HSOforum they have a fishing report page that tells what lake and how the trip was. They will take excellent care of you & all your needs.

There are many great fly-in outfitters. Do your homework and get referrals if you can. This can be done by going to the Sports Shows in the late winter.

Any good outfitter will not have any openings remaining for this year...........

The best thing I liked about Trophy Fish Outposts, is that you and your party had the whole lake to yourself. There wasn't any other outfitters there, and Trophy only gives you the lake. He doesn't bring any other guest there.

Cabins have propane operated stove/oven, fridges, chest freezers, lights, showers. Has a nice fish cleaning house. American plan, or he will feed you. Boats are the typical 14' with 9.9 motors with swivel seats and unlimited gas.

Keezhik lake is 5 miles north/south and 15 miles east/west. It is a large lake.........All yours...........

Machawain is about 3 to 5 miles wide and 10 + miles north/south.

For walleyes:
Most people jig up there.
However I found the fastest action, with larger fish by casting cranks on top of reefs. We would pound an area for about 10 minutes, boating about 10 fish........then move around the reef, doing it all over again. I would destroy about 15 to 20 cranks per trip, because the fish would mutilate them.

Also with this outfitter, for beer. He will fly in your beer ahead of time, so you don't have to haul it. His prices are very reasonable for beer also. He limits to 150lbs per person. Meaning 10 people can have a total flyin weight of 1500lbs. This included your food, if you haul it in.

The reason I'm promoting this guy so much, is that I've talked with alot of other people and other outfitters. All around, I think this guy has the best fishing/setup/privacy/etc you will find for total package.

Personnaly, I know Knobby's is a great place. Top notch! However, I like the idea of having my own lake, all to myself for 5 days.

If you are looking for a quality Fly in, lots of fish, size, numbers, great cabins, along with great equipment, you can't go wrong L+M Flyins. They have some the best water around. They fly their own planes - twin engine beeches, so you don't have any waiting around for an air service to fit you into there schedule. Just get on their plan and go fishing.

Thanks for all of the help!
Big G,
My next question would be if the fishing is "easy" at trophy. I know fishing is fishing and things can change, but over all, will the less skilled fishermen have more success than on LOTW? I have fished on LOTW now for six years and it has been awesome, but there have been times that the walleyes can be extremely finnicky. I personally would love to go back to LOTW, but if there are only a few of us catching fish there may be a mutiny! I was not able to make the trip this year but the group that went ended up with a 51"er. It was a beautiful muskie.
Thanks again,
Greg

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
