REPORT FROM 1/8-11

Recommended Posts

Was up in the Atikokan area for the end of last week lake trout fishing. New to the area so asked the resort where to set-up shop and move around to. We concentrated on depths of 20-48ft, no more than 60ft of water in the areas we fished.
Weather was just turning from COLD Clear days to warming temps and snow.
Between 5 guys, managed 27 lake trout with most of the fish averaging 3-4 pounds. Some in the 5-8 pound range.
Everyone in the group used 3" and 4" berkley power tubes in white and smelt color.
Excellent trip and hoping to come back again next year.
The key was to be mobile. If the fish weren't in a hole after 15 minutes, punch another hole 30 ft away. The flats we fished, we moved around a bunch.
Found that around 10am-noon and then 2-4:30pm was when the majority of the fish were caught.
Mobility is key!
IT is work, but the work is worth while when you hook up with a lake trout! Those dudes put up a good fight and nothing is as cool as seeing that little red bar on the vexilar come flying up to your bait and THUMP.....Fish on!!!
