jasonk
We are supposed to be comming up this Thursday. How is the ice in the Nestor Falls area? Are people still driving out or will we need ATV's? How is the crappie fishing? We would probably stay home but we stand to lose our $200 deposit. Thanks in advance.
Northlander
We just got back on Friday. We drove our trucks all over the place. Crappies were hot for a couple days then others found out and our spot got pounded to death. No waxies allowed over the border anymore so bring some power bait waxies in the glass liquid filled jar. They saved the trip! Well worth $4. Get 2-3 jars because once your buddys find out what your catching the fish on you will be selling them on the ice!If you need more info e-mail me at [email protected]. Animal
I just got back Monday (3-17. We fished out of Muskie Bay. The ice on LOW is about 50 inches so make sure to bring your extensions. We drove on LOW with no problems. The snow took a big hit with the warm weather We filled out with crappie in about 2 hours Friday afternoon fishing off of the first island out from the Crow Lake Assn. road. Fish were 8 feet off the bottom over 28 feet of water. I drilled alot of holes because the fish were moving around. Those who stayed put didn't do well. There was a group that fished Hay Island and reported slow fishing, but they did fill out.

Guest
Too late to help jasonk, but just got back from Nestor Falls on the 20th. The ice had been very wet until Wed. the 19th then started to drain off. Not exactly one crappie after another, but overall pretty good. They bit all day with occasional flurries. Hole-hopping seemed to be the best way. Used Gordy's access west of Dalseg's Grocery, no problems. A beautiful time of year on a beautiful lake. jasonk
We had a very good trip. Fishing was only ok, but the weather was fantastic. Crappie fishing on Thursday was good, but for some reason on Friday they disapeared. We fished Hay Island, Stevens Bay, and Cyclone Point and did not catch one crappie. They weren't even showing up on the Vexilar. They just weren't there. Laker fishing was fair. 4 of us landed 5 in a day and a half that averaged about 4 pounds.
