Where are all the Walleyes?

Recommended Posts

Other than Quickrelease catching some at Chatfield the other day, I haven't heard of many eyes being caught this season. What's up? Is everyone slaying them, but just being tight lipped about it! (I doubt it).
Boyd,Sterling,Creek,Pueblo,Stanley,Chatfield, all are fishing pretty slow. Hopefully when they turn on, it should be slaming. Two more days and my fishing season truely begins!!

Oh to have the schedule of a teacher again! However, I believe I am a slave to the salary forever more! John, let me know if you head down south sometime ...maybe we can hook up and hit the water together. Enjoy a well earned summer!!

John - I wonder if it's not a matter of the warm cold warm cold formula the weather has taken on. The water temp is pretty close to where it was a month ago. I sure saw a ton of boats at Chatfield last Sunday. I'm going out again on Saturday. I'll let you know how we do. Anyone ever pulled an all nighter at Chatfield? I wonder with all the boats buzzing the lake all day if the fish are smart enough to wait till nightfall...

Thanks Eric, that's a pretty good site! Do you know where Lonetree is? I think it's between Longmont & Loveland, if it's the one I'm thinking of. I'm not sure.

yeah lucky, I'm pretty fortunate! The summers are probably the main reason I've stayed in teaching this long. I wouldn't mind going down to Pueblo some time. I really don't know the lake, I've only been there once.

Fished Boyd on Sunday, caught 2-18" Walleyes had a couple more bites. Also several Trout and 1 White Bass. The Walleyes hit on crawler harnesses. Lonetree is right outside of Berthoud, nice little lake.

Fished Boyd Saturday morning, 5-9. In between rain showers, we caught 4 trout, 2 white bass (1 18inches) a smallmouth, and 2 walleyes! one was a dink, the other 16.5in. Finally, a keeper!!!!!! All fish were caught trolling bottom bouncers. Gold tomahawk spinner took all the bigger fish. at least the bad weather kept all the water skiiers away.

Fished Lonetree last night, what a nice little lake! Fished from 6 till 11. Started by trolling crawlers, darn near went all around the lake till we had a hit.(little sucker bit me off!) so we stopped and jigged. Got 6 eyes, 3 were keepers, although nothing over 16inches. Its not much, but at least we're finnaly getting some eyes! Man, it was alittle difficult getting off that lake in the dark. Those boat ramps are dinky, and way to go by putting them right in between the trees. I wouldn't think a light would be to much to ask for. But the lake was great, I can't believe how many fish we marked on the electronics! We'll be fishing this one alot more I'm sure!

It's sorta between Berthoud and Loveland. Almost right next to Lon Hagler (lots of Muskys in there!)

May hit Boyd in the morning,But we got some weather. May fish, may sleep in, man I love vacation!!!!!!!!

I didn't make it to Grandby today but did get to Chatfield. Surprising small crowd because of the weather I guess. We caught over 20 eyes, 2 keepers. May hit it again tomorrow.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
