I was on the main open water forum, reading about a 13lb. 12oz walleye caught last week, and it got me thinking.

1) What would be your standards for a trophy fish? include weights and lengths for the different species.

2) Would you keep a trophy to mount, or get a replica made.

looking forward to some good "chating" on this one!

My Trophy limits
24 inches or larger for trout
and I would photo and measure and have a "model" made, cuz that big ole fish would get eaten
36" or larger for pike
and I dont fish for anything else

10 lbs or 30 inches for a walleye

30 lbs for a lake trout

30 inches for a carp

Never caught a big pike and never caught a huge! rainbow, but I plan on changing that this summer since I have a truck that will get me up in the mountains with my boat now.

I realease most fish I catch. A replica is supposed to last longer and look better anyways. I've cuaght some trophy's but I haven't been able to afford a replica. I just frame the pictures and put them on my wall.

John:

10# or better Rainbow

15# or better Pike

Not sure on Walleye...biggest ever was 3#'s

Not much of a knowledge on woper, bass, etc. but if it felt ritgh I would go for a mount.

Of course for me I would pay for a replica... they turn out identical and last forever.

I would go 12lbs or 30ins. for walleyes

at least 20lbs or 38ins. for pike.

probably 28ins. or 10lbs on trout.

Lakers, a 30lb'er is a pretty darn nice fish.

Personally, I think that I have definately released my fair share of fish, and see nothing wrong with keeping one to mount. The key here is "ONE", and it would definately be the fish of a lifetime. Of course I've never had the chance to make this decision yet, and who knows, maybe I'll change my mind when the time comes.
