Might want to head Southeast

Recommended Posts

Just got off the State park web site. John Martin is open for boating and according to the site they are getting a good Walleye bite right now! It doesn't list any water temps, just says good for Walleye along the North shore. Think my boat is coming out this weekend. Anybody else?

Dan...

I didn't think I would be ready for open water but I am. I don't own a boat (yet) but I like to belly boat a lot. Let us know if you head to Martin.

Hey, Dan Dan, go slay them down there. I am thinking of going to Kansas next week to see if I can bring some of them slabs.
Nothing going on locally.

Hey Dan:

I'm gonna have to raincheck for this weekend but would love to hook up with you soon! I have to attend my daughters(the non-fishing one) band contest this weekend. I can smell spring in the air.

AS for Kansas, the best reports are coming out of Cedar Bluff so I think I will be watching the weather and if the snow doesn't start on Sunday will probably hit the road and fish Mon, Tue, wed.
Sebelius is also good but seems to be off to a slow start.

Been thinking about going there also. Nephew goes to school just up the road in Hays. Reports sure have me itching to get out there. We hit Sebelius last year a couple of times and it was great fishing!

Well, Kansas was great. Cedar Bluff is run purely for recreation and they do not sell the water for irrigation. It was really wonderful to go to a lake that is truly managed as a warm water fishery (read that to mean no stupid d... trout.) Wind was a problem on a couple of days but the fishing was fantastic. Imagine a limit of 50 crappie per day and possession of 3 times the daily limit. I could have eaten for the next year on 300 crappie, especially the size of these slabs. The other thing that is really good is the reports that Kansas Department of Wildlife puts out. They are accurate and up to date about fishing conditions and give helpful hints. Not at all like the poor excuse for reports that Colorado puts out weekly and then you see the same report for the next 8 weeks.
Dan, how was John Martin?
