Gross Res

Recommended Posts

Greetings Went to Gross on 2-22-04, and had a great time. Caught 3 lakers and fished over 9 inches of ice. The creaky ice was a little nerve racking, everytime the train went by the ice would crack. We fished the narrows area east of the inlet, using sucker meat on the bottom. Great day and lots of action. Next time i will trim the bait smaller and unshroud the hooks better, missed alot of hits because of big bait and the hook issue. All in All a great time for me and the kid

Well, do you think that Gross will have good enough ice for fishing this weekend? I'm thinking of taking a little trip up there tomorrow. Anyone been there during the week? Where are the best spots for Macs. I thought that I had a map but I can't find it! Is it pretty steep getting down to the ice? Is an ice shack better left at home. I don't think that I have fished it since the early 80's. Any help would be very welcomed. Thanks,
Dan

I fish the inlet side of the lake also. Good wide path going down to the lake. Have never taken the hut up there, don't want to drag back up the hill and with the winds that come thru there could be more of a pain. Would think the ice would still be ok, doesn't get very warm up there. Might head up myself tomorrow.

Good luck!

Greetings Well I went back again this saturday What a great day. Got there around 1:30 and fished until 5ish
I caught a 18 incher and a 12 incher both lakers and the guys a few yards away gave me his 17 incher. So I went home with 3. Great day Fishing through 10 inches of ice, a little slick cuz no snow on top. Do not bring a large hut to the inlet side, the path down to the lake is starting to melt and the rocks are nasty. Take the long route and dont try the shorter steep path, knocked my sled over 4 times. GRRR All in All a great time. gonna try again this weekend.

Mtl,

You need to get there a bit sooner. The bite there really dies down after three and I find around 10am is the prime time. I've yet to catch a big fish in that lake though.

I think the biggest lake trout I've ever caught from there was about 20-22 inches. The big ones are there, but they avoid me like the plague.
