Considering all that I've read this year, I think maybe the Stock Show would be the deal. Other than that, I've heard Steamboat lake has beeen giving up alot of smaller fish with an occasional 18". As a bonus if you park by the north boat dock, you are at lake level.....good for kids.

Around the dam is good and also near the boat ramp. I've also caught a few brookies over by the inlet but they're pretty rare and they do plant brood stock rainbows up to 10lbs during the summer so there is a chance of a real lunker.

San Isabel is a great place for kids and first time coldfooters. I took my grandson a couple of weeks ago he got his first fish through the ice.We fished the cove you see first coming from Rye,its always good.A few days ago I fished the boat ramp area in the late evening fishing well into the dark-great with electronics-caught and released to my hearts content.Using Isabel as an alternate, returning from North and Monument [unfishable] salvaged a great day of fishing!

All right, unless you guys tell me of another hot spot, I am taking my 9 yr. old daughter to San Isabel on Saturday. Seriously, if there is any other hot spot great for a kid let me know. I'm heading out of Co. Springs. Thanks!!

Lucky---I'm sure Isabel will be a great outing you and your son. From Springs you can take I-25 to the Colorado City, Rye exit go about 25 miles west to the lake. The first cove is always great but you'll have to walk a ways, the easiest access is the boat ramp near the lodge. Deweese isn't far about 20-25 miles north on same road [see Bishops Castle] to hiway 96 west to West Cliff ,lake not far to the north. You could go back to Springs through Wetmore and Florence-east on 96. This may give a second option inroute home,a beautifull drive. Deweese offers easy access and is kid friendly. Be safe-have fun--SW icer
