I thought about going after some lakers but the northerns won out for once. Fished from 8 to 4 caught 9 pike most were in the 20 to 25" range and a couple that were around 30 inches. I also hooked something that really doubled my rod over and felt a lot bigger than anything else I had on today, but of course it slipped off. I don't know what its going to take to catch a walleye throught the ice at Sanchez but its proveing to be a real chore.

I've been wondering about going down there. I've never caught a pike through the ice. What sorta bait do you use and how deep is the water you typically fish for pike? I'm thinking about doing a long weekend to Sanchez for pike and then to Blue Mesa for macks.

Don, they really arn't that picky just about any jig I throw down the hole gets a hit but make sure you have some sort of cut bait to tip them with. As far as depth I caught fish in 5ft. and at 25ft and everywhere in between. I just bought a new Jiffy 2h.p stealth and have been having fun breaking it in so I drilled around 50 holes and just kept moving around until I spotted some on the vex. I'm also headed up to blue mesa next week for some lakers so be sure to post how you do.
