Taking the Cub Scouts Ice Fishing

Recommended Posts

You will be "sainted" and rightly so! I got my kids 'hooked' at Wolford. As you know, the fish weren't big but plentiful. The walk to fishable water is good for the cubs. Just for fun call the Kremmling fire dept and ask when they are doing winter rescue training at the lake. Your guys would love that.

Thanks guys, I'm located in Westminster and most of the kids live in the Wheatridge- Arvada-Golden area. We hope to fish on Jan.24th which is on a Saturday. Anyone who would like to help out would be greatly appreciated. We need rods + reels too if anyone knows of a good deal, let me Know.
Thanks again,
Dan

I knew of a place in berthoud called Bennets Bait and Tackle, I used to go in there and they would be setting up rods for kids to use on weekends for functions, take note this was in the summer time, you might want to give them a call and see what they say...you never know. How many are you looking for, and i will ask my fishin buddies what they are doing, we might just make a day of it also and see you out there.

I was at Boyd yesterrday and the action was good. make sure you take those kids to a place where there is ACTION or they will hate it. Maybe Red Feather? Trout aren't big, but good action. Can be VERY windy...

Also, check with the DOW. They have warm water gear they will loan out for kids--not sure about ice gear though...

Let me know where you decide to go--I might come out and give you some help, if I'm able to. I have about 8 ice rods and would be happy to let the kids use them if I can make it...

Thanks you guys,
I think I've decided on Bear Creek Lake. The date, however, is not positive yet. Bear Creek Lake can be either Hot or Cold for ice fishing. When they decide to bite its hard to use 2 poles! Also they have been getting a few decent saugeyes through the ice. That would be great. I'm going to pre-fish it this weekend and see if I can pinpoint a presentation that will work. I'll let you know the-for sure date- when I find out for sure. Thanks again,
Dan

Dan,

I live in Wheat Ridge and would be happy to help. I have 6 rods that will work for the fish at Bear Creek. Let me know what your final plans are and we'll hook up. I'll talk to another friend and see if he would like to help out as well.

The trip has been set for this Sunday the 25th. We are headed to Boyd and will arrive between 7 and 7:30 AM. I'm headed up to Granby Friday night and fishing Saturday there. Hope some of you can help out on Sunday at Boyd. Get back with me if you can.
Thanks again,
Dan

Sounds good,

I will try my best to be there on Sunday but it all depends on work schedule, "on-call", but I will see what I can do, I have about 6 rods, 2 tip-ups, 3 shanties, 2 power augers 1 manual auger, "ice box", heaters, etc. Again I will do everything in my power to be there, If I can't make it, I will let you know, and since I live in Northglenn, we can meet and you can take anything that you might think that you will need, just let me know.

Hey Dan, Boyd is close to my house, so I bet I can help out on Sunday. How many kids will you have? With 3 kids of my own, I know how fishing with kids is high maintence! What time are you planning on arriving? I've got 5 or 6 rods I'll set up, a 10in power, and 8in hand auger, so we can get lots of holes punched. My daughter and I have fished Boyd a few times this year and have done very well. maybe we'll check it out Sat afternoon.
Let me know, John

Dan:

What are the ice conditions at Boyd? My folks live in Broomfield and I am considering meeting you guys at Boyd on Sunday with my 6 year old son and my 8 year old nephew. My brother just wants to know the ice is safe for his son

Dan, we'll for sure be there, are you picking up bait? I've got lots of mealies. Reg might come out also, so it looks like you'll have lots of helpers. Lets hope the fish cooperate, so we get some kids "hooked" on fishing the hardwater! Let me know if you think of anything else you might need!

Dan,

I made plans to install new appliances at the cabin this weekend but plans may change if they don't arrive in time. I won't know until tomorrow morning. If I can help I'll just plan on showing up Sunday morning.

Thankyou so much everyone. Sorry I'm late getting back to you. I was at Granby. Fishing was great there, nothing big but I caught 41 fish. Rods and reels I think will be the biggest shortage. I'm bringing fatheads for bait. Hopefully I'll have enough jigs for the crew. Bill's Bait on Washington At about 58th also always has minnows as does Bass Pro at Sheridan and Mississippi. My cell is 303-809-3099.
Thanks again,
Dan
