Williams Fork ICE

Recommended Posts

After getting my Kokes at the Snake river inlet I drove over to Williams Fork. I drove around the lake and the only place with any ice was at the west boat ramp. It looked pretty scary, but I was intent on trying for some Pike. I drilled holes starting at the shoreline and out every 10ft to about 40ft off shore. The ice was 3.5-4 inches and clear. I put out a dead line with a whole dead sucker and then started agressivly jigging a 1/4 oz castmaster next to it, tipped with shrimp. About 45 minutes later a small gator hit my castmaster. It was only a 23" H.H. I tried for another hour with no more hits. I was in 8ft of water. Wish that the ice would have been better. Then I would have moved around a little bit more. I was by myself, so I didn't want to chance it. The rest of the lake looked as if it was trying to form ice , but the wind was busting it up too quickly. At least I drilled 1st holes at the Fork this year!

You fellas are getting me fired up talking about Pike. For some reason I have the water wolf fever this year. See you on the ice. Dan I get a little nervous about that ice you described.

Icenutt,
I kind of doubt that the whole lake will be frozen, but I'm sure some more of it will be. I drove by Dillon today and the whole lake had a thin layer of ice, when last Sunday only the Snake River inlet was covered. Let us know how you do if you go and how the ice was. I can't fish this weekend because of obligations at Church, so I'll really be itching to go the weekend after Christmas.
Merry Christmas to all,
And may Christ keep you safe on the ice,
Dan

12.20.03 I'm a firm beleiver in a guy being humbled on the ice once a year.....but NOT the first time out. Glad tha's over with.
Now for the report. Fished off the west boat ramp from 10' to 20' depths. Vex lite up twice in three hours but nary a hit. Ice was 7" with maybe an inch of snow on top. Lots of open water. I'd say from the east boat ramp most of the way up to the inlet. We looked at fishing the dike but thought we better let that ice cure alittle. That ice is clear blue with lots of pressure cracks and no snow cover. The dike area should be ready real soon. Also the water level at the dike is way up from last season, so the climb back up is about half. As a side note, we didn't see any old holes or traCKS anywhere on the lake.
FYI: Anybody going thru Kremmling, the gal that runs the Subway is opening at 7:00 am for sandwiches and breakfast. My boys think Subway is way better than the sandwiches I make. Go figure!
Even tho we had to fly the Skunk Flag, it was still a good day. I hope this is the only skunk story this weekend.

I fished the bay by the East boat ramp on 12/26. I fished in 7', 12', and 19' of water. I didn't mark a single fish. The ice was about 5" thick in the bay. I didn't like the looks of the ice on the main body of the lake and will wait awhile before going back. <'))<

Fished Williams Fork on the way home from John on Sunday the 28th. Fished to the south of the East boat ramp. Three of us Fished for 2 hours and only caught 4 small Macs. Caught them in 26 ft of water. Couldn't get out to my spot yet without a lot of walking. Ice was not safe enough for a ATV or Snowmobile yet. About 6" where we were. Maybe by next weekend.

WF 1.11.04 2:30, 4th and 1, Ahman Green coulda/woulda made 1 yard. So we departed early to catch the game and miss the skier traffic. Got skunked! Fished off the dike from shore out to 40'. Marked very few fish, had one on but lost it. Gonna try Stagecoach next.
