Any other weekend reports?

Tried Eleven mile out today only to discover you guys arn't trying to hide the hot spot, its slow. I started out on the west end where there is a comfortable amount of ice 6 to 7 inches, had 1 hit, then went to North side where there is only 3 to 4 inches little spooky, hooked a couple that got off and had another couple of hits. Long day but it was awsome to be out on the ice.

Hey, I don't think it's 11-mile, it was slow every where last weekend. Fished Cowdrey & Lake John on Sunday, and no one was catching anything. Never had a bite at Cowdrey, had a few at John, but nothing to speak of. I talked to a guy that fished John Fri-nite,all day Sat& Sun, and he caught 7 fish total! Maybe the ice came on too quickly. A longer time period between open water & safe ice might make the fish more agressive. Just a thought anyways. Oh well, there's always next week. It was definitely good getting out on the ice.

11mile has always been hit and miss for me. I have to disagree with some of you. 11mile produced 4 northerns over 40 this season, including one close to the record. Last year there were 2 northerns over 40 I know of. I can't say anything about the baitfish production but the northerns are out there, just well feed. Don't get me wrong its not like the trout glory days before pike, but to say 11mile is a slow fishery is incorrect in my humble opinion. Believe what you want but the fish never stop feeding, you just need try new things until you figure out a pattern. But I guess this is what seperates the great anglers from average anglers.

All we're saying is it is slow so far on the ice this year-usually the fishing is excellent for trout early-IMO. Most of us only fish for pike as an afterthought-I love orange meated trout and pike just doesnt cut it on the table.

Avalaanche, I'm not saying its a slow a fishery, its one of the best big trout and northern lakes in the west. I have no doubt that there are a ton of fish in there of both quantity and size. My question is why is it so slow. You make it out there next week and you might catch twenty of um.

Slayer:

I make an annual birthday pilgrammage to Blue Mesa every year after Xmas. Last year was the first time that my party did not catch 50-100 fish (Kok's and Bows). We caught ONE! Thats right one. I'm not sure I'm going back for the pilgrammage this year. If anyone hits Blue MEsa let me know how it goes.

Don't know when big blue is going to freeze but I will be there the first week it does. I lived in Gunni for 6 years and have caught some heavy lakers within the first two weeks of ice on, its a hit or miss type of thing, but if you hit it on a good day you'll be back.

Slayerfish, I've been fishing 11mile now for 5 years and this is the slowest I've seen it. I've heard this res. runs in cycles, with last years season being one of the best ever, could this year be the start of the opposite? Have you ever seen it start out this slow and then pick up later on in the season?

Just thought I would log in and say hi to all of you. I've been reading many of your posts from time to time and I enjoy them very much. Hopefully I can contribute some info down the road.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
