any tips for the rock river

Recommended Posts

Grinched is our resident river expert, but I am not sure which one. Hopefully he can help. I'm a lake michigan and Fox Chain of Lake guy as far as IL goes.

I used to fish the Rock in Rockford! I lived there all my life until I moved to Bemidji MN. Stink bait work really well when the water warms up. Small Bluegills, Chicken liver, shrimp all work well for mud cats. When looking for mud cats find a hole with some log jam. For channel cats look for drop offs and anchor just above the drop and throw back to the hole. I always fished north of town. Even as far up to Atwood golf course and beyond a mile of so. Good channel cat water up that way.

I'm considering a trip down to the Rock River. A town called Prophetstown not too far upstream from Moline.

Anybody know the features of the river in this area?
