Carp spawn?

How close are the carp to spawning?

I thought they spawned about the same time as cats... when water temps are in the 70 degree range.

You'll know when you go into the bays and it smells like watermellons.

Even if they are not spawning yet, they will be in the back of bays sunning themselves.

I think they are getting ready to spawn I caught a big female the other day and when I was fighting it in it was splashing before long there were about 10 smaller carp following the big one I had hooked. It was cool to see.

They are already spawning now in some lakes. The one I was fishing on yesterday, they were everywhere splashing about in the weeds and shallows. They're so in-tuned into spawning they splashed right up to my trolling motor and even bump it at times. Some of those females must go 40". It was quite a sight.
