rascal23
Hey guys, I'm hoping you can give me some input on dimensions for a rear rack for a 2-up Vmax. I'm having a welder friend fabricate a rack for me, so I need to take everything into consideration. I would like to be able to carry a 1 man flip over, if need be. But unless I'm sight fishing or temps below 10 or 15, I go without. I currently have an older gen fishtrap ( pre clam). Not sure if I will hang onto it because of weight factors and other improvements. Eskimo hub may be carried on occasion. Auger will probably have to go on back till I can figure out a front mount. So, please help with dimension ideas , ( depth, 2 tier, etc..). I figured if anybody can help, it would be the ice team guys. I know alot of you guys fish the tourny's, so efficiency and self containment are a must. If I'm having a rack welded up, I'ld like it right from the start. Thanks for the help, rascal
Rod Woten
As far as the dimensions to fit your Fish Trap, most of us have gone to using a second tub or sled identical to the one our Fish Traps are built on and securing it to a frame mounted over the tunnel at the rear. Just get a Scout tub for a Scout, a Legend tub for a Legend, Kenai for a Kenai, etc. This simplifies things because it's just a matter of fastening it to a frame mounted to your sled and the Fish Trap fits like a glove. When you put the cover on your Trap, be sure to wrap it around the edges of the "receiver" tub and this locks everything in place. As far as specific dimensions relating to the snowmobile, there are so many variations that it would be hard for anyone to tell you what dimensions you need to use. Your best bet is to measure what you already have and design around that. Chris Granrud has an interesting rack on his Bearcat that is designed to haul coolers, hub houses and some other misc. gear so maybe he will chime in and offer some help? Good luck and be sure to post pictures of your finished rack!
rascal23
Rod, Great idea on the nesting tubs. This eliminates the need to size the rack specifically to cradle the tub, even if it does bump up the cost a bit. Thanks for the input. Good luck on the season. rascal
