Pete Maina
I've gotten out several times in the area since returning from Lake of the Woods.Ice seems to range between 4 to 7 inches. We have little snow so all ice encountered has been very safe. Have mainly targeted walleyes ... pattern-wise, have had little luck in shallow water. Tried deep clear water (still had 4 inches of ice over 60 FOW) and yesterday a stained system. In both cases previously, had experienced good early ice action fairly shallow on weed edges. So far, it's been a bust for walleye - other than pike here and there. All walleye action came on deep bars in clear water (25 to 32 FOW); on stained system had many holes precisely on distinct break; right on edge and base of break. All action came deeper in the mud adjacent; even after sunset, action was out there as fish didn't seem to move up. Panfish reports are fair at various depth levels. Gary Parsons
I too, have seen about the same ice depths. Northern action has been good in back bays on the tannic stained lakes in 5 to 9 feet with golden shiners. Crappies and Bluegills are on the weed edges with deep water near, extending down into the deeper depths.

Pete Maina
Fished around St. Germain with my buddy Rob Manthei Thursday. They have good ice, a little more snow; so possibly a little less ice with a little more slush, but conditions great for travel; there too - most of walleye action was deeper. Gary Parsons
Fished near Cable today. Ice was 8-9 inches pretty much wherever I drilled. Snowmobile trails are laid out on many of the lakes.
